OLYMPICS - The Biggest Learning Opportunity On Earth?

The Biggest Learning Opportunity on Earth

'The Biggest Learning Opportunity on Earth' (BIGLOP)  was an innovative partnership programme exploring the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games as a learning opportunity for young people. The programme, developed by A New Direction (AND), was delivered to 145 schools across London by 14 creative organisations...and MakeBelieve Arts was one of them!

We devised a unique story to meet the needs and interests of each school using the Olympic values respect, excellence, friendship, courage, determination, inspiration and equality as key ingredients. Olympic stories include:

·         The Animal Olympics (Foundation and Key Stage 1) – Meet Safari Steve, he needs your pupil’s help to assemble animals to take part in the Animal Olympics.  Join him on a journey to different environments around the world exploring our strengths and those of others.

·         The Biggest Opening Ceremony on Earth! (Key Stage 2) - The Olympic Organiser is responsible for organising the opening ceremony in London 2012 but – uh-oh – they’re struggling to think of ideas and just don’t know where to start. Pupils will look at past Olympics to inspire their very own spectacle for London 2012.

Choosing between 2-6 weeks of workshops, 1-3 practitioners worked with a year group, or multiple year groups, engaging the pupils in an unraveling weekly Olympic themed tale.

MakeBelieve Arts lead on Faster, Higher, Stronger as part of AND's London-wide Olympic project. Working with 9 schools from Brent, Enfield, Harrow, Hillingdon, Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark, our projects used the theme of the Olympics to explore the past, present and future through stories.

MakeBelieve Arts is proud to have been part of The Biggest Learning Opportunity on Earth as Faster, Higher, Stronger took flight. We enjoyed exploring how the themes of the Olympics shape and link to the stories of young Londoners.
