LEE GREEN COMMUNITY CENTRE

The Lee Green Community Centre is the product of a collaborative partnership between Lee Green Lives, MakeBelieve Arts, Lewisham Youth Service and the Lee Green Local Assembly. Since April 2010, we've been working together to bring a sense of life back to Leegate Shopping Centre.

As a partnership, we've been working to turn an empty shop in the centre into a vibrant community space. Rather than walking past a vacant shop front, the people of Lee Green can now reclaim the space as a hub of activities for the whole community.

From knitting groups to young people's drama and art; planting and potting to parents and toddler music groups;  jewellery making to music production, we plan to have something for everyone at the Lee Green Community Centre.

The partnership between Lee Green Lives, MakeBelieve Arts and Lewisham Youth Service has been made possible by the support of the Mayor's Fund awarded by the Lee Green Local Assembly, funds from the Meanwhile Project and our landlords, St Modwen Properties. The Meanwhile Project is a philosophy, policy and programme that enables communities to make use of empty spaces in local areas. The Lee Green Community Centre is an example of people working together to transform a dormant, empty building into a living and breathing community space.
