EARLY YEARS TRANSITION

Working with pupils and parents in the move to Big School

MakeBelieve Arts works with young children and their parents, using storytelling and drama techniques, to ease the transition from nursery and other Early Years settings to primary school.  See below for information on our individual programmes as well as an EARLY BIRD PACKAGE deal.

Early Years Transition Storytelling and play

For children

MakeBelieve Arts offers 2 workshops:

Naming our Feelings
and
Going to Big School

  • We encourage the children to be excited about their move to big school
  • We get them thinking about their journey and all they've got to look forward to
  • Use theatre techniques to explore the changes ahead

Each workshop is an hour in length

For parents/carers

MakeBelieve Arts poses questions about some of the difficulties and emotions parents might face when their child starts school. We:

  • Get parents talking to each other about how they really feel
  • Get them involved in acting out solutions to problems
  • See parents debating their views in an animated manner

Each workshop is 1 - 1.5 hours in length

For children and parents/carers together

MakeBelieve Arts offers: Big School with our Parents

Children and parents explore together their hopes and fears of the forthcoming move. Telling stories, imagining characters and acting out scenarios, they work together to begin their new journey.

Each workshop is 1 - 1.5 hours in length
