PracticalitiesThe Drama in Literacy Programme consists of a selection of in-class workshops derived from Primary school texts for Foundation Stage, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. MakeBelieve Arts begins each programme by delivering a half day INSET session for the whole school and then follows up this event with the in-class work. Teachers are asked to select the book they would like to work on with their class and workshop leaders deliver up to two hours of classroom drama, complete with teachers notes for each year group. The programme can work as a pick and mix with only certain classes experiencing an in-class session or as a whole school programme. |

EthosThe Drama in Literacy programme is designed to fit into any classroom, changing the focus of drama away from a subject you need to book hall time for or squeeze into an already oversubscribed National Curriculum. The purpose of the programme is to hand over techniques to teachers, developing strategies that they can incorporate into their regular classroom activities. The work is based completely on children's texts, and aims to develop a child's in depth understanding of plot, subtext, narrative and character.
